I reckon that Nikon will surely implement some mechanical simplifications in order to keep the price level down. And I'm already fearing the result ...

Plastic bayonet?

Maybe, but I don't really expect it. Judging from the images, I think I can see some metal, but it's hard to be sure from the angle in the procut shot.

The 35/1.8 has a metal mount, so I wouldn't expect the AF-S 50/1.8 to have lower specs. Actually, it features at least one thing the AF-S DX 35 does not have: a focus distance window.

I do not have much expectation about this lens since Nikon has both 50mm 1.4D and 1.4G with affordable prices. Indeed I hope that Nikon can produce a 35mm 1.8G or a 2.0G for FX.

Well, relatively cheap and for the money jolly good is the 50 mm 1.8D, although some say that the "Made in Japan" pre-D versions were even better. Anyhow, it´s simply a logical step that Nikon is now going to a provide an AF-S 50 mm 1.8G in particular for those who own an entry level Nikon DSLR without internal focus drive motor.

This (the aspherical element) raises question marks regarding its bokeh quality ...

I've just been told that this is "nonsense" on the dpreview forum. Well, looks like I'm not alone with my belief in that "nonsense". <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
