Funny enough I'm more curious about Sony's plans than about others. For instance, the fact that you can get a 24mpix FF system (A850 + Tamron 28-75mm) for less than 1,500 eur is amazing. I mean, Canon vs Nikon battle is a bit boring sometimes, you have to look into other manufacturers for more entertainment <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Well, about Sony, yes and no. The A900 was an interesting camera, but it got one-upped from the start by the Canon 5D mk II, which offers live view and a movie mode. The A850 was basically the same camera, just slower. Nice cameras, just not offering what competing manufacturers are offering.

Sony kept live view off them till live view, according to them/marketing blurb, could be done right. Which I do not get. Why should one need AF for a movie mode? Ever watched a movie, and were impressed by the camera work and visuals, with the camera AF-ing? No, or course not... It is horrible to watch a camera AF. One wants to see a character move into a scene, not see the scene move while the character moves.

AF in video is for video what snapshots by point and shooters are for photography. Just yuck, horrible home video sittings.

And not to speak of the ghost light problem from dusk till dawn.

What does this have to do with FF and Sony? Sony decided to fix something that was not broken... The scrapped the DSLR and came up with the SLT, a kind of EVIL. Continuous live view from the imaging sensor is the only way to go. SSS, in Sony's implementation, is a heat generator too. This means that the cameras overheat quickly and that they use a lot of battery power, always. Also, it means they have done away with OVF, replacing it will those horrid EVF's (flat scenes, problems with flash studio work, and so on).

My "fear" is that Sony may also make the next generation of FF cameras SLTs. So you then get an FF camera which overheats after minutes of use, not just with video but also with stills. Remember, bigger sensor is more heat and more power consumption. With a crappy EVF.

And live view, something I would like (but Canon already offers).

Curious about what Sony will come up with, yes. But afraid it will be a handicapped camera, all in the name of video AF (YUCK).

You see, I'm not implying that you're "Anti-photography Photographer" in any way, you're without a doubt very much "Canon-photography Photographer".

Umm... this got me thinking. Here's a breakdown of my camera equipment brands:

6 cameras = 3 Sonys + 3 Canons

8 SLR lenses = 4 non-Canons + 4 Canons

I'm just saying that for whatever reason you find it difficult to separate dpreview and photozone forums and you bring full measure of their holy war into this forum, while in my understanding, most of photozone users try not to do that. Of course, I might be completely wrong <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Now I don't know whether you're just joking or being serious.

Sony's DSLR division is trying to be like Microsoft... without a dominant user base advantage. Let's hope SLT doesn't catch up with other manufacturers and cripple SLR designs too.

I also want to take this opportunity to (speech alert) wholeheartedly blame Nikon for cheating and cooking the RAW files to win in terms of noise numbers by sacrificing detail. I really hope Canon doesn't end up doing the same mistake and take away the seriousness from the craft. And I wish all manufacturers were like Fuji and Sigma/Foveon when it comes to sensors and like Sony Nex when it comes to EVIL cameras.

Want some fuel for the flames? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I spent the evening yesterday with the guy who bought my 200 VR (he brought it over to do a test run on the D7000). He's shooting for a living, mainly indoor sports.

According to him, at least in this segment, the ratio went from Canon only (pre D3 era) to almost 70:30 Nikon:Canon around two years ago and is now back to roughly 50:50 (mainly because of the Mark IV).

Depends on your intentions, whether you simply can't help posting those remarks (e.g. former Nikon user suffering from "my ex is the biggest mistake of my life"), or you're acting as so called agent provocateur (a.k.a troll) <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

I suspect the latter, so in this case my posts indeed were just a waste of space, sorry Vieux loup, I'll try to shut up <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

In Germany, if I recall correctly, the market is a bit skewed (or was), where Nikon made a big deal with a big press agency at the introduction of the D3, and made all their photographers switch.

There happens to be more than one agency, plus lots of freelancers <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I know. And if the 2 biggest players switch in a sponsored action by the manufacturer, data is not representative anymore. It was in the news back then, maybe it still is findable via google. I think it was DPA and another.

Well manufacturer can sponsor one or two migrations, but after all they are in the business for profit not for charity. And are you saying that Canon never did such sponsorship?

Well, I talk about things I've used and systematically tested and/or my claims are backed-up with reasoning. To claim what I say is not true without experience or reasoning, like what you're doing, is proper trolling.
