Tamron FF lens (3x) development annoucement - Klaus - 02-20-2019

A 35-150mm f/2.8-4. Well, it is an original idea but what is the point? Especially with these max apertures?

Well, I guess it's like a 24-120 f/4 for people who really don't like wide angles. I guess abandoning the wider angles (24 to 35 mm) allows them to design a lens that is more compact, and with better optical qualities (maybe).

That 35-150 would mesh pretty well with a 16-35/17-35 lens for people who don't like lots of FL overlap. It could also double as a normal to medium telephoto for APS-C shooters, in lieu of the (almost?) extinct 50-135/150 class. It's a pity that (as Lenstip had found in their recent review of the new 17-35) "OSD" really stands for slow and noisy old school micro motor, not a variation on the USD. Tamron blew it there.

MFD 0.45 m throughout the zoom range could be interesting. As Rover said, together with a 15/16/17-35 (and even a 150-600 at the longer end,) it's an impressive coverage.

However, I still don't see why the 150-600 could be updated to the Z-series by mid November and it's smaller sibling is still awaiting this update. Less so Canon: Both 150-600 and 100-400 are already up to date for EOS-R. Lazy Tamron, I have to say.

Well a 35-150f2.8 would be a lovely lens for APS-C tokina made one in the past dunno why it didn't succeed, maybe because of price and weight, too bad nobody wants pro APS-C lenses anymore..

No, Tokina made a 50-135mm f2.8 lens. And nothing that Tokina makes "succeeds".

well it was not cheap, average autofocus, no stabilization quite heavy, so don't expect much.
tokina did some lenses that actually succeeded like 12-24f4 and the fisheye zoom that were popular at some time
