Well I expect 28-70f2.8-3.5 to be a rather compact standard zoom, otherwise it wouldn't make sense along with 24-120f4 and 24-70f2.8 let Canon make one and I would be glad to get it

There's already the 24-70/4 for the "compact" category. Doesn't add up.
