I wonder how it compares, IQ-wise, to the SEL1670Z in the sub-range 18-70mm...

Klaus, may I point out that your signature says "Chief Editor photozone.de"?

Come on, it'll always be the Photozone in our hearts. Smile

Speaking of the lens, it's an unexpected one but probably a goodie.

Hi Klaus,
When will you review this?
Thanks,

Without Sony driving the APS-C market with more cameras and lenses, I don't see a review in the immediate future.
Canon EOS APS-C is another land deserted by the manufacturer for instance.

Canon APS-C is actually very well covered, the only thing it might lack is a fast OEM ultrawide, Tokina and Sigma fill the gap nicely, few new lenses that's IMHO because the line is practically full now

Well, that very much depends on what one expects. For someone like slowish zooms shooter, true. For advanced user, a lot is missing, like:
Fastish wide angle prime, like 15/2 or faster
Tele prime, like 60/1.4 (1.8)
Midrange tele zoom workhorse, like 45-150/2.8(4)
and more...

Some might claim gaps are covered by 35mm lenses, like 50/1,4 or 70-200/4. For others too much of a compromise.

Simply, Canikon wants serious users to go to 35 mm sensor where can get more revenue.

Back to subject, do you think 18-135 should be better than 18-105 ???
I am looking for an alternative for the 16-50 whose only advantage is size, I am leaning towards 18-105, unless the other one is really good
