The bokeh doesn't look like the end of the world to me. But maybe I'm just not picky in general.
9% barrel though...

Sometimes bad bokeh can be accepted but here it's a real show stopper IMHO

So be fair - few lenses can produce a beautiful bokeh in scenes with extreme contrasts.
And very few standard zoom lenses have a good bokeh.

It looks like a good travel option to me. And it is not priced at $3,000.
I wish for Sony to update the 70-200 f4 in their catalog.

There are strong rumors of an incoming 70-200mm ƒ/4 with macro capabilities and 1/3 smaller than the actual model.

I'm also interested in the 70-200mm f/4 macro for traveling purposes.

More than once I've been thinking of replacing my old 70-200/2.8 IS with the 70-200/4 IS. The only thing probably stopping me was laziness, and maybe also the sentimental value I've invested in the 2.8 (after all, it has outlived 4 cameras in my bag and I'm now using it on the Z9........) But if I had been starting fresh now I would've most probably gone with the 4.0 version.

You won't go wrong either way, I know plenty of photographers that sear by Canon 70-200f2.8 IS, for them it's the ultimate lens. OTOH its f4 sister is rather compact as sharp as a lens could be, I don't there's a sharper zoom around, Klaus reviews confirm this finding.
Only problem with 70-200f2.8 IS is most the ones you will find on the used market have been abused by professionals who used them for thousands and thousands of times...
