Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - Klaus - 05-30-2023 Good performer but don't look at the bokeh. https://www.opticallimits.com/sonyalphaff/1169-sony2070f4g RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - Rover - 05-31-2023 The bokeh doesn't look like the end of the world to me. But maybe I'm just not picky in general. 9% barrel though... RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - toni-a - 05-31-2023 Sometimes bad bokeh can be accepted but here it's a real show stopper IMHO RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - Klaus - 05-31-2023 So be fair - few lenses can produce a beautiful bokeh in scenes with extreme contrasts. And very few standard zoom lenses have a good bokeh. RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - borisbg - 06-01-2023 It looks like a good travel option to me. And it is not priced at $3,000. I wish for Sony to update the 70-200 f4 in their catalog. RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - stoppingdown - 06-01-2023 « I wish for Sony to update the 70-200 f4 in their catalog. » There are strong rumors of an incoming 70-200mm ƒ/4 with macro capabilities and 1/3 smaller than the actual model. https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/rumor-sony-70-200mm-g-ii-macro-might-be-30-smaller-than-the-predecessor/ RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - borisbg - 06-02-2023 Thank you, Stoppingdown. I will gladly replace my Tamron 70-180. RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - Klaus - 06-02-2023 I'm also interested in the 70-200mm f/4 macro for traveling purposes. However, I wonder how popular this lens class is? RE: Next OL lens test - Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G - Rover - 06-02-2023 More than once I've been thinking of replacing my old 70-200/2.8 IS with the 70-200/4 IS. The only thing probably stopping me was laziness, and maybe also the sentimental value I've invested in the 2.8 (after all, it has outlived 4 cameras in my bag and I'm now using it on the Z9........) But if I had been starting fresh now I would've most probably gone with the 4.0 version. You won't go wrong either way, I know plenty of photographers that sear by Canon 70-200f2.8 IS, for them it's the ultimate lens. OTOH its f4 sister is rather compact as sharp as a lens could be, I don't there's a sharper zoom around, Klaus reviews confirm this finding. Only problem with 70-200f2.8 IS is most the ones you will find on the used market have been abused by professionals who used them for thousands and thousands of times... |
