Forums > Back > Cell phone IQ and the future of camera systems
#11
Honestly, I just want to have a device that I enjoy using and gives the results I need for the job. I couldn't care if it's a cell phone or a large format camera, all I care are the results and the process.

And so far, I hate my cell phone camera. Maybe I'd like it if I had a better model but well... I don't want to.

I love the photographic capabilities of my Nexus 5X.  The HDR mode is remarkable.

Dave9T5- You said it right.  The HDR capability can give a pleasing result.  I really really like the detail and vivid colors that HDR can achieve.  I don't care for tripods much, so I don't do HDR much.  You have discovered the beauty of bricks!  HDR rendered bricks, I mean.  My HDR love was at it's peak when my camera was a Sony 3MP camera.  I really needed something to enhance details.  If I could do hand held HDR's that were any good I'd still do them.  They just don't work out either with my phone, or my DSLR!

Dave...Like I commented before to another poster.  Take a photo of a golf ball with your phone cam.  I'm not trying to make it sound like a challenge, or criticize your phone cam.  Not at all!  It's just that when I found I had taken 6 or more photos, and still could not get a good one.  That's when I realized that like the mini point and shoot cams...They are good for typical subjects at typical distances.  But a golf ball is not a challenging subject.  I was very disappointed.

On the other hand, there are times when it is really handy to have a camera...any camera!  It is one of the few really useful capabilities of a modern cell phone.
