Hi all,
The mirror chamber of my 30D just failed, it needs replacement, and it is quite pricey for the camera value <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I am not upset because I extensively used my 30D (more than 100.000) pics, it never let me down and was a rather good performer.
for the time being I don't need more, so what I do get it working back for 300$ or pay plenty of $$$$ for 60D or 7D??
What are the price for the two new ones?
If not too much more, I'd say let the 30D rest, it's done its job <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Don't throw it away, keep =) You'll miss it if not, and feel bad. I still miss my K10D, even though my K-x performes as I hoped. I still want to buy the K10D back.. Even now when I have a K-5 that is being shipped to me tomorrow =)
To me, it sounds like your 30D is economically beyond
repair. It might depend on how prices for used camera bodies
are at your place ... here a used 30D goes around 300euros ...
so repairing yours for 300$ (USD ?) is probably not worth it, since the
rest of the body also carries the wear of 100.000 shots. Eventually
just buy a used 30D instead.
Just my 2cts ... Rainer
You should fix the mirror assembly and keep on using the 30D... even if it's relegated as a back-up camera.
Or get a used 40D?
Personally, I wouldn't have it repaired, but replace it with a good, used 40D if money was an issue. If not, depending on budget either a 60D or a 7D. Purely for (high iso) IQ probably a 60D.
Another alternative could be a 5D classic, or even a 5D II <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />.

... agreed ... but this move might have sideeffects on the lens-collection trailing it.
