Forums > Back > Searching for a 50mm macro lens, cheap (legacy is ok) with ~ 10 diaphragm blades
#1
My Nikkor 50mm ƒ/1.8D AF that I use with my Sony camera bodies with a focusing helicoid adapter is an excellent lens that I still use for close-up/macro. I've taken hundreds of photos of butterflies and flowers, and wide-open it also has a trioplanish bokeh balls effect. The only problem is that it only has 7 diaphragm blades, which deteriorate bokeh balls when stopped down. So I'm searching another 50mm lens to complement it, with more blades and better bokeh balls. The idea is to pay no more than 200€, which of course excludes Voigtlander lenses, which have excellent reviews. Unfortunately, all the legacy lenses I've evaluated so far have even less blades:
  • Olympus Zuiko Digital 50mm F2 ED Macro Lens 1:2 (100/200€)  6 blades
  • Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.2 (350€)
  • Olympus G.Zuiko 50mm f1.4 (60€)
  • Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.4 (200€) 6 blades
  • Olympus Zuiko MC Auto-Macro 50mm F/3.5 Lens (100€) 6 blades
  • Pentacon auto 50 mm f/1.8 Multi Coating (20€) 6 blades

There is the TTArtisan 50mm F1.2 (100€) with 10 blades, but it has an absurd bokeh ball shape. And then the TTArtisan 40mm F2.8 macro (110€) with 10 blades and a decent shape up to ƒ/5.6, according to reviews: https://sonyalpha.blog/2021/11/05/ttartisan-40mm-f2-8-macro/

It seems to fit my criteria. Do you have some other suggestion?

Adding to the list:
  • Minolta MC Rokkor 1:1.7 55mm (50€) 6 blades
  • Canon (n)FD 3.5/50 Macro (60€) 6 blades
  • Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 50mm 2.9 (100€) 12 blades, and it's quite light — just reviewed: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-meyer-optik-gorlitz-trioplan-50mm-f-2-9-v-soap-bubble-bokeh-treasure-or-garbage/
