$1150, collapsible, no red ring (=no hood included), but some basic sealing.
My take: sounds like a DOA with the 14-35 available for not much more, except for someone who is desperate for f/2.8 but does not want to pay 2x the price for the 15-35. Then again, how good f/2.8 is going to be on a "cheap" (in Canon terms, that is) UWA is another question.

I suppose they want to have something Sony G-class-ish with these new f/2.8 lenses.

That was an interesting move by Canon. It feels like a Sigma-style budget play, but with the bonus of IS. At $1150 and no red ring, it's targeted at a different crowd than the L-series users. The collapsible design is convenient, but I wonder about long-term durability and optical quality wide open at f/2.8. For landscape or architecture, I’d still lean toward the 14-35 for the flexibility and proven L-series performance. But for video shooters or event work needing that fast aperture in a lightweight form, this might fill a niche.
