Forums > Back > fuji t-50 vs sony alpha 6700
#1
I'm trying to decide which body for shooting picture of aquarium fishes - lenses would be fuji 30 f2.8 macro vs son e 30 macro (fuji lens seems better). Given that my fishes are blackwater fishes the aquariums tend to be dark and my understanding sony has the better auto focus. However i do not want to do much post processing beyond cropping and i think from what i read t-50 will produce better jpeg. Not sure either camera has good options to move the images to my computer - with the phone i use wifi email since i run my own mail server all data is local and fast.

Here is a typical picture i take (this is with phone):
(hum don't see way to attach images)

(the phone does ok when light is high but when it gets dark the image and focus fall to kaput)

good to have a fellow fish lover here Smile
what fish do you have just to know their size and help you choose your focal, 30mm APS-C should be a good allaround, you don't need a macro lens for fish a standard zoom like 18-50 should do the job pretty well. I expect both cameras to do well

Mostly various uncommon species of apistogramma. I currently have the follow:
Apistogramma sp. "Ipiranga"
Apistogramma sp winkelfleck
Apistogramma sp Ladisalo
Apistogramma nijjensi
Apistogramma wolli
Apistogramma sp bluketa
(all wild caught)
I also some nice wc discus and Ivanacara Bimaculata. I have some g. sp alto (gold dust) they keep breeding so not well behaved. They need birth control or something. Sadly my chocolate cichild also breed. I think i have to stop obtaining females.

So you don't have any opinion between the two ? My general reading suggest the sony has better low light performance and auto focus but the fuji will have better jpeg. Maybe the difference between the two is very minor ?
I have a very old om-1 (original digital) maybe that is good enough? I should try to find it ?

Excellent collection, had some dwarf cichlids plus discus for some time last year, but had to donate them as I had to travel for 3 weeks and couldn't find anyone to provide adequate care they need.
I have now five tanks with severum, angelfish, gourami, polar parrots, bristlenose and of course Zuma my beloved large Oscar.
The biggest challenge in shooting fish is the tank glass itself, if it's curved whatever you do, you will have massive chromatic aberrations... especially at the corners, if the glass isn't curved things are a little bit better but still you have serious issues especially if glass is thick, try to have the camera sensor plane 100% parallel to the glass.
what will limit your image quality is the tank glass not the camera in my humble opinion, so everything should work, fish are rather slow creatures, stabilisation or even tripod/monopod can be of help.
Lately have been using Olympus Tg5 compact waterproof camera sensor is poor,  and the lens bad except at the widest end.... but it can go inside !!!
As for the JPG advantage Fuji has, all depends on your editing skills, (and the quality of your screen since you need t see the colors you are editing))

[*]If AF speed & accuracy in low light is your top priority → Go Sony (especially with a higher-end APS-C or full-frame body).
[*]If you want the best out-of-camera JPEGs with minimal editing → Go Fuji.
