Hi guys .... there was a day when A4 prints seemed big, more than enough and I have a selection on the walls, but after a while that size is well meh ......
I've been dreaming about a printer that doesn't cost both of my kidneys and then some ..... and I've found just the one .....
........  the Epson IT 8550 A3+ (with six ink tanks two blacks, one grey/blue/yellow/cyan ... that gives you 420 mls of ink for €121.

it prints B/W prints, something I've wanted to do for some time . ...  the price €679 inc delivery and some sort of accessory pack that's supposed to be worth €80. Reviews are very favourable so I just needed to find the funds ...

....  my doctor however talked me out of selling one of my kidneys underlining my abused body was already under fire .... so what have I got to sell? ... there's the two AF85mm one of which is a D lens the other isn't ... A Nikkor 55mm F1.2 manual focus ..... an AF 80-200mm F2.8D (auto focus US)  and the AF35mm F2D  and a replacement focus motor for the same lens and a selection of bits and bobs ..... (happily the 55mm F1.2 sold the same day)

.......... on the strength of that I ordered the printer.

An expert prints-man utuber Keith Cooper recommends the printer highly .....

I am sure you will enjoy the prints, 1.5 picoliter droplet size that's decent...in former models Epson compensated for big droplets size making light cyan and light magenta ink for smoother gradient.
As for color accuracy, it depends how much you like to edit the colors and how much you want to stick to Epson ink and paper (which is excellent by the way) if you nothing but OEM products you should be fine with color accuracy, however if you want to use third party paper, then you will need a calibration device to calibrate the colors to your screen.
I bought one and never regretted, some papers are excellent but have a color cast, calibration solves the issue instantly.

Hi toni,
I certainly will stick to Epson inks and will start by using Epson paper (glossy) ..... then I will try other types ..... I don't see me going down the expensive arty types of paper route ...... I want to standardize in order to get reliable prints without much waste ......
I had tried third party inks and was impressed, but I had found a good budget glossy paper in A4 size, which I will use for test printing .....

thanks .....

Congrats on the new printer! The ET-8550 sounds like a great choice for larger and B&W prints — definitely worth the upgrade. Can’t wait to hear how your first prints turn out!

I received it the other day, as luck would have it my screen started to play up and my computer too .... but it's working again for the moment until a new computer turns up with Windows 11 ....

Will do the install later today .........

     thanks dave

All installed inks, disc etc .... did a few A4 test prints just to see how it printed, got the first sheet of paper the wrong way up which made a mess all over the rollers (great start Smile ) ..... a few more prints and all was well again .....
Just printed my first A3+ on Epsons premium glossy .... very happy, borderless, no banding, good colour balance and sharpness, no ink splotches, it sparkles! .......

Also printed a B+W portrait (A4), impressive, I've tried printing B+W with the previous printer, prints are either tinted green or purple or both .... this print was pretty much tint free, Keith Cooper (reviewer and printer king) states that it uses a bit of colour to anti-tint, of course it also uses grey ink ..... how long they will last we will see ..... the others were useless within months ....

There you go,
All in all so far so good!
