Forums > Back > JPEG default file format in CS4 - How???
#1
How can I set up my Photoshop CS4 so that the default file format is JPEG when I save files/photos "save as". When I save new photos PS is set up so I save everything in psd or tiff. I want JPEG to be my default option.

Does anybody know who to change it? It would save a lot of time!

Thanks!

Time savers in PS are called "Actions". Record your action once, run anytime.

I may suggest to look for a raw converter/CS "preprocessor" designed to follow a photographers workflow. PS CS is a powerful instrument, but it's history/origin as a graphic designers workbench doesn't fit well into photographers world. Lightroom, Aperture instead are powerful tools for photographers. (Haven't worked with CaptureOne, maybe it fits as well). LR doesn't support things like layers (well, *one* layer with limited options is there) or plug-ins or softproof and some other stuff.

I use both, LR + CS (+ CS plug-ins and PTgui) and that's not going to change, I think. About 90 percent of the photos are done in LR only, lower percentage if ISO is pushed to and over the limits (third party noise removal plug-in in CS).

yes re. Walter's reply, + if you have many pix you can then quickly batch them -

... now just to put a small word in for C1 + Ps - yes Lr is fine no doubt - but for me C1 is mighty fine: for colour and luminance detail retrieval & adjustment / nr / sharpening(used carefully) etc. + i'd have trouble living without layers / actions / curvy things / ni & nn plugins etc in Ps + you get acr thrown in (with it's Lr tweaks) - so, definitely worth a look if you like this sort of thing - just a thought -

so...
