Seems as if the sales volume is too shallow on the Pentax side of life.

Klaus, the link leads to the news section, but I couldn't find the mentioned article.

Well, that hampers selection, not quality.
O : )
[gets under the desk to prevent further damage by ravid cosina fans ; )].
It´s not that Pentax does bad primes, to be honest. Not at all.
Plus, they still have to beat the 43 [they as the rest of the industry]. And no, I´m not talking about just mtf figures, I´m talking about end user experience.
Here it is, I hope:

The Zeiss site has a structure where normally the url stays the same, i.e., the general one.
Kind regards, Wim
Gear: Canon EOS R with 3 primes and 2 zooms, 4 EF-R adapters, Canon EOS 5 (analog), 9 Canon EF primes, a lone Canon EF zoom, 2 extenders, 2 converters, tubes; Olympus OM-D 1 Mk II & Pen F with 12 primes, 6 zooms, and 3 Metabones EF-MFT adapters ....

Agreed but it's still not great to have less choices, isn't it ?
Cosina has nothing to do with it. They are merely an outsourced manufacturer. It is the design and QC that counts.
Apple doesn't manufacture their laptops either bu they're still Apples (well, maybe Lemons at times).

And it is the second time Klaus uses the very same metaphor [so to speak] to explain the Cosina-Zeiss-Voightlander issue.
; )
I think they are more than merely an outsourced manufacturer.
Else the marketing stuff on the cosina webpage will have no that much sense. On top of that, I still have the suspicion about who in reality did push to have those Z- series lenses, "zee germans" or mr. Kobayashi Hirofumi.
Just sayin´

Even so - some of the designs aren't exactly new and originate definitely in a Zeiss design. It may well be that Cosina pushed it in order to utilize their manufacturing plants. However, is there something bad about this ? Seems to be a win-win to me.

Klaus, it was just a joke.
I know it is a win-win solution. Cosina has shown to really know how to master high grade manufacturing, and I do regard that, except from some first examples of FA limited lenses or the SMC Takumar 50-1.4, there are no better lenses for manual focusing out there.

Cosina probably does have something to do with it, but in some different ways.
Likely what happened is that Zeiss gives Cosina a new manufacturing forecast for 2011 and there are no ZK lenses in the forecast and they inform Cosina that they are ceasing ZK production. Cosina, being a typical Asian OEM company in a culture based on rote learning, is "the student" and therefore follows "the master" (Zeiss) and therefore quickly also curtails it's future plans to market Voigtlaender PK lenses.
Further, it's quite possible that the Zeiss and Voigtlaender lenses share some common parts (machined lens mounts, electronics) and without both parties actively producing K lenses the economy of scale makes it non-viable for one to carry along alone. So, regardless of which of the Zeiss or Voigtlaender brands decided to kill their respective K mount lenses, the other had no practical choice but to follow.
