Despite ranting about high vignetting regularly here, I typically add quite some vignetting in post, because I like the effect a lot (and the PS subscription is still much cheaper than switching to all Zeiss gear to achieve the same effect).

Similarly, I enjoyed some unexpected flare when I took some Viltrox glass for a short walk yesterday:



Seriously, though: if the light hits the front lens at a certain angle, all those Viltrox lenses seem to flare like crazy.

Is that lens by chance the 13/1.4?

Nope, it's the 24/1.8 on the Z7.

I also have the 13/1.4... two actually, X mount and Z mount.

Even if this is bad, nothing is badder than my Sigma 14mm f/2.8. Sometimes I could put this to creative use, nonetheless.

Speaking of flare do you remember tokinas ?
16-28 will give you all types of flare while keeping a good contrast if you like such effects you will absolutely enjoy it. Markus already talked about this in his review.
https://www.opticallimits.com/nikon_ff/594-tokina162828ff?start=1, frankly I find it much better than other ultrawides especially from optical side since it doesn't rely on digital correction natively vignetting and distortions are low,if it weren't a heavy behemoth to carry with a fragile protruding front element, I would have it my bag all the time

my old Tokina 24-200 is an absolute disaster here with crazy flare and loss of any contrast knowing that in best shooting conditions it's already poor

Yes, I remember it. In fact, all those UWAs with huge bulb front elements seem to show similarly severe flare. Of the three I tested (Nikon 14-24, Tokina 16-28 and Tamron 15-30) I actually liked the Tamron the most, since it combined UWA with a stabilizer.

I am really curious how the new Z 14-24 performs, I haven't handled that one so far.

Thanks, I just wish I had a wider view still - but that was already on a 5D Mark II.
