Well, other than flare it is more compact and more light-weight (and it has the worst lens cap on the planet).

The point being that it's meant to be used on Sony cameras, not Canon or Nikon? (FWIW Nikon doesn't make a 16-35 2.8 lens, and the Canon ones have their own known issues).
