I am looking to select a site to store my images and to share with family, friends and other interested parties. Which one do you recommend; flickr, the Nikon site or some other good site for this kind of storing and sharing? I like expono.com. And I prefer this way of sharing them, click an image and navigate with your arrow keys or mouse: http://www.expono.com/netrex/album/14005



There are other ways if you click the top-left link and see the album in other ways.

I would not choose anything bound to a camera brand (the Nikon thing you mentioned). They do also have limited storage, don't they?

I used to use Fotki which has unlimited storage in the paid version. There is a 6GB traffic limit (per month, IIRC), but that is hard to hit. You can set custom access passwords for individual folders, so that you can share different things with the right people. On the downside it is slow to upload photos and the features are behind the other sites like Flickr or Smugmug.



Flickr is more of a social network thing, depends on whether you like that. Smugmug is also worth a look.

Yep. We used Fotki for a while, but hit the limit often <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> They were a bit difficult to work with to solve issues like this, communication was poor.



We now use SmugMug for the sample images. Sebbi uses it for his personal images, too.

I use Picasa as one of my stores. You can make online albums and set them as public (anyone can see), private (anyone with specific link) or even more restricted. Combines with the software of same name to make uploading easy.

I like the way galleries & images are presented on SmugMug... gives you a lot of control, too. Whether it suits depends a bit on cost.

- yes i'll give a vote for smugmug too - - the way you can set up privacy and access to your various albums is useful as are the stats info, and it seems to me to be not too expensive for a quality site

dpreview.com - you can organize pics in albums, generous upload limit, free.

My vote - Smugmug. Works as it should (uploading and viewing works better then the other sites I tried), good communication when and if needed, and I'd call it photo-centric, instead of social/community oriented (like Flickr).
