Forums > Back > Photozone iPad application
#1
It occurs to me that perhaps we photographers could do with an iPad (or iPhone) photozone application.

The way it would work is something like this:

- it would in some fashion download or sync with the website in order to retrieve MTF scores for lenses at given zooms and focal lenghts

- the downloaded data would form a database inside the application and allow you to select which lenses you own

- it might also allow separate selection of which lenses you currently have on hand

Using the above information...

- it would provide the means to input the desired f/stop and zoom setting in mm and then either advise you which lens will perform best or display the appropriate graphs/tables

- it would allow you to browse MTF data for a lens in order to see where the sweet spot is for any given lens

- with a bit more input data, allow you to specify the distance measurements that you want to be in focus for a given zoom setting and calculate which lens and f/stop setting will deliver the best IQ

The goal of this is to allow a photographer to be in a remote local, pull their D800 out of their bag that has half a dozen lenses in it and use the data from the website to determine which lens is best to use and at which setting rather than try to use the cache on their shoulders.

Had I an iPad, Mac and so forth, I'd probably write this myself, but I don't so I'll leave the glory of that to someone else (unless someone wants to send me an iPad + Apple laptop <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />)

You are proposing an app for a device that you do not own? That smartphone/tablet hype is really insane. :-)

Seriously, the idea is nice, but IMHO it will drive people even further away from the essence of photography.

And why would you limit such an 'app' to a tablet? It could be used on PC/mac/phone/other too!
