Well, the last version was a step back from the version before that... at least Sigma is making progress again in this segment.
The 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM performs very well though, and the 8-16mm too... so yes, I too hoped for more.
What I don't like is that it lost its "macro" ability, giving a max. magnification that is a LOT worse than before. And the zoom ring on the "wrong" spot.
Lets see how the 85mm f1.4 will perform!
Nothing a little bit of sharpening cannot fix...I think people are over reacting and putting this lens down too much while forgetting that it's 700 eur cheaper than Canon/Nikon versions

Well, even though it's cheaper, it's still a rather expensive lens.

If I was searching for 70-200 2,8 IS/OS lens and by budget is 1400Euro I will go for new canon 70-200 2,8 IS MK1. they are still available in some shops.

That lens is not much sharper... but weather sealed and with a much better max. magnification factor.
And last but not at least – Canon has incredible good ring USM
