I just registered here to say: Here I am, a Pentax user ;-)
many words, but please let me explain, why Pentax?
When I was looking for my first dSLR I wanted good optics too, but for little money. I decided to go with old manual lenses and researched which system would be best for that. I found that Pentax is the best system for M42 lenses. I went to stores and picked up all the cameras at hand, not only Pentaxes, new and used bodies ( luckily I was in Japan then which meant easy access to handling cameras in stores and to used gear ) and my choice was a used *istDs, it handled better than any other. I love it for being small and making a small but powerful package with an old MF prime mounted. So does my recently acquired K-x.
Today I know that, even if I was not into old MF lenses, Pentax still would be my choice, again for the same reason, powerful but small package handling well. I would love to have a DA70 to catch faces on the street, who would think one has an effectively 105mm lens mounted?
The new 2.4/35 is a perfect move of Pentax. It is meant to be a cheap entrance to prime lenses for users who recently bought into Pentax getting the K-x, or who will get the K-r, a camera which should be great, more so even the K-5. And this lens is just that, and a 35mm is clever for a start though hopefully there will be more 'affordable', 'cheap' primes from Pentax to follow.
I am not surprised at all that it is 'only' f2.4. All DA line of lenses ( only exceptions 1.4/55 and 2.8/14? ) focus on being small instead of being fast. I like that...would love to have some, and would continue to use my manual Takumars or other fast M42 lenses for narrow dof - fast lens wide open - shots.

You can go ahead and order the K-5 :-)
Almost certainly the K-5 will have the same viewfinder as the K-7, and thus take the same Katzeye which already is available for the K-7
