I've just tested the new owner of the 85mm f/1.4 (full format) class ...

Hmmm... let's see... the Zeiss was already tested; the Nikon is available but usually Markus conducts the Nikon full frame tests with his D3X. On the other side, the Sigma is available but only for Canon mount which should let it fall into your hands.



I bet on the Sigma as well <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Maybe the same principle as with the 50s: Sigma will be the best in the center, but the Nikon will be the best over the whole frame. The test of the Nikon at lenstip suggest something like that.

The lens has very good borders/corners at ... f/1.4 ... and it's excellent across the frame at f/8.

We're talking about a full format test, of course.



No focus shift and smooth bokeh, BTW.

I don't think the new Sony 85 F/2.8 is available already, and lately you haven't been too busy with Sony <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. Of course, if you did receive the new A55 already, that could be a good introduction to the camera <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.



I guess I missed number three <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.



I do know the Sigma is shipping already, no idea about anything else in this FL <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

The Sony will not perform that well at f1.4 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

And the Nikon does not exactly have very smooth bokeh.



I did not know the Sigma is available yet... Else I would have to guess the Sigma.

I just hope that I won't be tempted to try a Sigma again. If Sigmas 85mm really performs, and with a price difference of 900€ to 1400€ for the Nikon, I probably would be.



So I bet on the Nikon, despite I know that this one would usually be tested by Markus.

Hihi, completely overlooked that in my reply. I couldn't actually think of any other 85 F/1.4, as the Nikon and Samyang were tested already <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

It is actually available, since the beginning of this month. That is why I suggested Sigma <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.



The Sony 85 F/1.4 hasn't been tested in FF yet, however <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.



Other than that, I couldn't think of any other 85 F/1.4. But then, I may have missed an announcement or two <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. Oh wait, didn't Samsung announce a K-mount 85 F/1.4 last year sometime? Somehow, I don't think they'll continue to pursue that route now, however <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. And obviously there is no K-mount FF body right now anyway. Of course there also is/was a Pentax A* 85 F/1.4, but again, no digital FF K-body.



My guess is still the Sigma <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

Oh, you mean the new one? That could be tested on a Canon body as well, actually <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. However, I somehow doubt that, as it still is a pain to set any other aperture than wide opee, F/8 and completely closed with a G-EOS adapter.



Maybe Klaus and Markus are just making it difficult for us, by Klaus announcing the 85 F/1.4 test that Markus is working on <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.
