Not a single one with AF 

 

Oh, and the Laowa/Venuslens, I have the 15/4 macro and it sucks in a lot of aspects: build quality, aperture without clicks, no EXIF, mount needs a lot of attention and optically it collects flares. I'm no expert but no Chinese lens is really something new, surprising, not to speak of outstanding. Also, the manufacturers betray EU systematically which annoys me as citizen and employee in this region. They fight super-dirty.

Several sites have shown that the Yongnuo 50mm F1.8 is "not" a copy of the Canon.

 

 I agree though that the Tamron 85mm F1.8 is over priced.....the 35/45mm are reasonable however, given the VC.

Indeed. The Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 is a BAD copy of the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II. And the Yongnuo 35mm f2 is a BAD copy of the Canon EF 35mm f2. Same optics recipe, worse optical element fabrication.

It would be cool, if Tamron could fill the gaps still exisiting after 4 years Sigma Globalvision. We still have no real good FF-portrait lens from Sigma. I'm just afraid Tamron is a bit late. Everybody with a Sigma 35 or 50 mm Art will only go Tamron if he finds them too big and heavy. From my side, I will only go Tamron if they are really great. A 85/1.8 for nearly 1000$ is not really great, the Nikon version at half the price is very good. Also I'm not willing to send lenses for repair to Germany, that's quite costly.

The Tamron 85/1.8 is not $1000 by the way - it's $750 at B&H, and I guess it'll be getting somewhat cheaper. I know it's not a night and day difference but the Nikon 85/1.8 G is $477. The VC and the novelty factor play in favour of the Tamron and when it hits $650 mark I would say it's totally worth it. That's just one good ol' Benjamin away. By the way, the 35/1.8 and the 45/1.8 are now $600 apiece - how much was the MSRP again?

I did see a video where the guy stripped down both lenses and found some optical as well as mechanical differences, he concluded that the optical design was different enough to not been a exact copy, for what that's worth.

 Needless to say I now can't find it!.......

   Kai finds the Yongnuo a Canon clone generally....mechanically and optically it's poorer than the Canon!

 

.....it's only plus is the better diaphragm...

 

   Better to get the Canon S/H IMHO............or in my case the Nikor AD50mm F1.8D........paid €40 for mine,

 

  Yongnuo is good for flashguns.

And its bokeh seems not less (maybe better) than the Canon and Nikon 85m f1.8. Nice lens then!

Lentip's review shows how close to being there the 85mm 1.8 is....  great sharpness, almost non existent bokeh fringing.....something that plagues a lot of older portrait lenses, such as the AFD/S Nikors....


...and for those doing "body piecing portraiture", (something that is now playing a huge role in modern photography)... they will be relieved not have spend hours in PP removing purple fringing around nose rings and greens around large earlobe bangles...... not to mention other pierced organs :blink:

         just when it looks to have nailed the competition.....we find it's kinda let down a little by focus shifting when stopping down......

 

   ......... a small flaw but a pity nonetheless!

Who needs stopping down.. Use your 70-200mm f2.8 for the f2.8 shots

Well I was considering getting a new portrait lens, reading announcement for this lens I was very eager however the price tag is the show stopper, not major advantages over Canon 85mm f1.8

I use APS-C for landscape and full frame for portraits, since this lens has been removed from my wishlist, the remaining ones are :

Sigma 70-200f2.8, Canon 85mm f1.8  and Canon 135mm f2.0
