Does anyone here create slide shows from their photos? Which software do you use and what kind of a file is your final product?



I recently had a good play with iphoto on a mac. It can be quite quick, but many templates have a mind of their own and so far I didn't figure how to fix things the way I want it. When it comes to producing output, the default option seems a quicktime video. That can take a long time to generate and the results are most of the time not comparable to watching the individual image file. File sizes for 10 min or so are in the GB range (H.264 encoded).



Any suggestions or other experiences?

In case you're watching the slideshow on a PC, why would you

want to create something like a "file" to view a collection of images?



Viewers like irfanview will play all files in a directory, or all files named

in a textfile, and that with a selectable number of seconds in between them.

No need to create a slideshow-file here.



If you want to copy the output to a DVD (or CD) and you want to view this

with "any" DVD-Player (even a rather old one), you could eventually

convert it with SW into a DVD-video-format. But then ... each DVD player

I saw in the last years was able to play a collection of jpg-files ... albeit,

DVD players do eventually prefer their input resized.

To synchronize with a given music track, to set the interval, crop and transition effect for each image ...



@joachim: take a look at the products of Boinx Software. They have a low cost solution (Photo Presenter) as well as FotoMagico, which is widely regarded as the benchmark when it comes to slideshow software on the Mac.

Regarding output, though, I'm afraid you're bound to large movie files if you want to get highest quality. Unless you use the Pro version of FotoMagico, which can produce player files (which run on the Mac only, however, at least to my knowledge).
