Can you elaborate about the difference between a NetBook and a NoteBook? I thought both are small laptops.

That's a fun question... don't mind if I chime in too...

I'd look at the earliest netbooks because that's when the term was coined up. Earliest netbooks ran limited operating systems and the machines were built primarily for browsing the internet and hence the name.

A notebook is a more featured computer... in terms of the processor and the operating systems.

For example, the Intel Atom CPU was made for netbook-like limited devices. Proper notebooks have real CPUs. The early operating systems of netbooks were modified and stripped down versions of Linux containing a browser and a few more tools... but notebooks have always had full versions of Windows running. Now, however, most netbooks run on the standard versions of Windows.

Also, I wouldn't use size as the classification criterion. I have a 1Kg 8.9" swivel touchscreen Fujitsu tablet PC/notebook (P1610) with a proper 1.2GHz Intel Centrino CPU, running Windows Vista, belonging to a design that easily predates netbooks. By today's standards, it may be slower than certain netbooks, but it's still a notebook <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

That's my 2 cents as a computer scientist <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

It's not as bad as made out. I think it is just one of those things that the bad reputation stuck even the performance bugs were later squished. I'm running Vista right now on my netbook: an Acer Aspire One.

On the netbook definition, I'd keep it really simple. A netbook would typically meet all the following three criteria: small size, low cost, low performance (compared to all computers average).

It came with XP Tablet PC Edition but got a free upgrade to Vista Business... the improvements in usability (due to better integration of touch controls) and memory management were like night and day.

I admit. This is really painful to leave it at home as I really like this lens. Nevertheless, it's the weight which start to be too much. The 55-250 will basically replace the 100/2.8 IS, the 135/2 and the 300/4 IS. At home I have no problem carrying two or even three for a few hours but this is 24/7 for 4-6 weeks.

First, the things I'm sure about:

I'm definitely taking the 7D, 10-22 and CPL. Bag is also a simple choice: The Lowepro CompuDayPack is my daily bag for the past 3 (4?) years. I have upgraded it to match my specific needs and it is very durable.
I intend to go with two bags. One is the aforementioned above. Any suggestions for another bag or, more precisely, another type of bag? I intend to carry in it all my daily things like shirts, towel, trousers etc.

I want to emphasize that I do not plan any long (i.e. more than one day) treks. That means that this bag will basically be used only to transport these things from train/bus station to the guest house and vice versa.

I do have a Lowepro rover. It'll be great but if it gets stolen I'll be rather upset.

TIA.
