I must admit I am very surprised to see "Fast and reliable AF" in the Pros column. I had the A33 for approximately 2 months and I'd rate the AF as "Hunts a lot in low light. O.K in good light". In fact, it is one of the reasons which made me sell it as it sometimes hunted in good light as well.

Well, I had no issues (at least no more than with other DSLRs) here during my 4.5 week trip to Australia.

There are zillions of A55 and A33 night photos on flicker without "ghost" issues. It's exremely rare.

Whenever there is a bright light, a ghost light will be there too.

Imaging-Resource did side-by-side test with A55 and much more expensive Canon 7D and found the predective AF in AF-C mode matched that of 7D.

As for slide mode, keep in mind the slide is 10 fps so it's not slow slide that you can't pan at all. Here is a video of EVF while doing 10 fps.

Oh boy.. the imaging resource side by side with 7D MYTH.

Imaging resource did NO SUCH THING.

Lets analyze what they say they did:

A car with a relatively low speed being shot. We get NO real results, nothing of the 7D. We do get a small set of crops from a toyota logo from the A55v.

Now lets look at the crops. Almost none are really sharp. One is very unsharp. The "reviewer" claims.... camera movement for THAT crop. Camera movement? Really? From ONE shot out of a series of 9... within ONE second??? Right.

So, a camera with built in IS. With high shutter speed. With a relatively short focal length. On a sunny day. Camera movement. The reason for the OOF-ness of ONE shot. Where we can't even see a tell tale camera movement direction in the blur.

No, imaging resource did NOT test how good the AF from the A55v is. At least, if they did test that, they have not published the test. They mentioned a non-taxing lame "test", with no results from what they claimed they compared it with, and with very poor results from the crops of the A55v that they do show. And then they also come up with nonsense to explain the OOF-ness.

Don't take that source (for A55v AF performance) serious.

About the slilde show, the problem is not the slides and slide times themselves, but it is the "seeing what has been" position of a fast moving target. This train is not fast moving in the frame, it is slow and comes towards us, and needs no tracking by the photographer. So it does not illustrate the problem.

The A33 has no 10fps mode, by the way.

False.

Nonsense, not false at all. If you find shots "in the dark" with no ghosts, then there simply are no bright lights.

What Sony-shooter Kurt Munger finds about the A33:

http://www.kurtmunger.com/sony_translucent_mirrorid181.html

Claiming that the A33 and A55 do not have a ghosting problem with bright lights is like claiming evolution is not scientific and should not be taught in schools. We know the source of the ghosts, we know when they occur. For night photography the Sony SLTs are not the natural choice.

You have been posting your nonense about SLT and Sony for a a very long time on various forums. How can this be not a false to claim when there are are thousands and thousands of images on flickr with bright light and no ghosting? Just one counter examples disproves the part "every time."

As for Kurt Munger, he is just flat out wrong about color fringing which he claims to be due to SLT mirror. A33 and A560 have identical sensor and identical color fringing on IR images. He was comparing it to totally different A700 12 MP sensor.

IR claims that they tested 7D and A55 side-by-side and AF-C performance was comparable. You have done no such comparison. I guess I will take their words over yours, given your several months continuous moaning about camera that you don't own and have no plans to buy.

READ what I wrote about it.

READ what THEY actually write and actually show (NO side by side comparison, they show. NO taxing scenario (slow-ish car which poses no problem to any camera to track)).

LOOK at the nonsense of that one image of 9 images would have camera shake, when ALL images are taken within one second. With bright light conditions, with a quite open lens, with a moderate focal length.

And look at the actual crops, only a few one could describe as being in focus.

It is a bullshit test, Don't attack me for pointing that out.

If you want to believe them, fine, believe them. Just do not pose it as being a valid test of any kind.

Now, it is well possible that the sources that find its AF predictive tracking to lack are wrong too (but the IR samples do show that the A55v in that tester's hands had trouble tracking the slow-ish car accurately). But we can only conclude that the sources that find the AF tracking not upto the task if we have evidence of that. And so far I have NOT seen actual evidence that indeed the A55v (or A33) has the AF tracking performance to match the high FPS modes the models offer.

If you have more valid tests, do share them. My opinion is not set in stone, just based on the available evidence and information.

Some of these pics clearly show ghosting.
