One thing I'm marginally confused in reading the verdict is that this lens lies between a 50f2 and a 85f2.8 both of which typically perform very well (esp when you get into the $600 price range). Add to that this is an crop frame lens do you really find this lens to be uniquely good for a relatively slow lens ?

Very interesting. This is one of my favorit lenses. I couldn´t imagine resulotion was so high, but what I really like with this lens is how it handles contrasts with perfekt skin tones and brilliant colours.

Another interesting pentax lens is the 100/2.8 macro WR. Will it be tested?

You2,

I believe Yvon Bourque tested the DA 70mm and confirmed it functions well on 135 film. Many of Pentax's "DA" lenses are actually full frame.

Pentax looking really good..!

Why are the resolution scales different for the K5 (up to 2750) and Nikon D7000 (up to 2900)? I thought they used the same sensor. That doesn't result in same resolution (scales)..?

I suppose because the K5 has a stronger AA filter than the D7000 thus the slightly lower resolving power...

Thanks for reviewing this lens again Klaus.

Looks surprisingly good indeed <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

In term of contrast how does the DA 70 fare (wide open) say in comparison to the DA 15? I own the latter one and find it very contrasty...

And versus the FA 77?

Thanks!

Nice lens

I'm still waiting for Pentax to make mirrorless cameras to have very compact systems with the pancake lenses

Pancakes for mirror less are harder than for DSLR. On a DSLR you have between 1 and 2 cm extra distance between the mounting flange of the cam and the sensor. That helps keeping light rays less angled while the lenses are still small.

And... "the" pancake lenses as a result will not just fit on a camera without that mirror box. Just like with micro 4/3rds and 4/3rds lenses and Sony A-mount lenses on NEX, you need an "extension tube" adapter which makes the camera just as deep again.

BTW, the distance between flange and sensor usually is about 4cm.
