Improved compared to what lens?

The old 50/1.8 or the AF-S 50/1.4?

a tad, compared to 1.8D... But I guess I will be waiting for the sample images at wide open with not so much distant backgrounds. I still believe that 1.8D does a good job concerning close up portraits when it comes to center sharpness and background blur...

Other than that, it is very sharp... I hope it will have a reasonable price.

Initial price in Germany 229 Euro.

Street price might be at 199 soon.

Thanks Markus for the test!

So what does everybody think?

Is it the right lens to add to an DX equipment when there is already a AF-S 35/1.8?

Or would you rather get the AF-S 50/1.4? (which I wanted to buy this year before Nikon announced the 1.8)

I think, for head shots, f1,4 at 50mm is a bit too wide open anyway. About f2.0 will do. And given the bokeh I'd rather get the new AF-S 50/1.8.

I think 50mm on Nikon APS-C is neither this nor that... I would much prefer the 85mm f1.8 on APS-C.
