Am I missing something here, or it's just another "Ricoh GXR"?

Sort of, yes. A bit better lens collection, though <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

A good demonstration of the size of this thing: http://www.imaging-r...oductshots.html

You're a Pentax user. All fanatics. [Image: wink.gif]

Right, let's see if I understand this correctly:

Pentax Q's sensor area is 0.6x of that Panasonic LX5's.

The 27.5-83mm zoom lens is f/2.8-4.5 (as opposed to LX5's 24-90mm f/2.0-3.3).

And with this zoom lens RRP is $1,100 - twice the LX5's.

Am I missing something here, or it's just another "Ricoh GXR"?

Well, unlike MFT or NEX you will have small tele lenses (but no small DOF, of course).

This has a certain value.

The GXR is fairly big in comparison I guess.

When? In 2 or 3 years from now? They didn't announce any proper telephoto yet, so I assume it is some time away. In their SLR range Pentax has not proven to be a speed demon when it comes to releasing new stuff. I just fail to see the point in an interchangeable system until there are lenses available.

I meant GXR's market share <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Anyway, small tele lenses might be good idea, however marked (imho) is already saturated with all sorts of 600-800mm "ultra-zooms" from Nikon / Panny / Olympus/ Kodak / etc, and they're much cheaper.

I thought the idea of having interchangeable camera is to be able to choose between fast primes (DoF control) and zoom lenses (convenience). In this case 50mm f/11 equivalent look like a joke to me.

P.s. Cheaper option <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> :

Very good indeed, thanks for the link.

Thanks for that link indeed, it's only after I saw these pictures that most -not all- of my skepticism vanished. Very interesting size.

I just compared, it's the size of my samsung cellphone (maybe they should add a telephone chip in it <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />?). Impressive. Price will adjust fairly quickly and as M. Johnston said, it's probably not aimed at us westerners so I'd not be too quick to bet on its failure. Often we make the mistake to think what we want is what the world wants.

Greetings,

S.

You think so? I am surprised that you want to test it.

With that small a sensor all this "adapting odd lenses" game doesn't make sense. Actually I think you need an in-lens shutter. So which lenses do you want to test? I assume the toy and fish eye lenses will not be the next PZ high scorer, which leaves the prime and the std-zoom.
Hi, got ontop of the shutter issue (I think). Quote from Pentax US side:

"Type: Lens shutter, electronic shutter** Shutter speed: 1/2000 to 30 sec (lens shutter), 1/8000 to 30 sec (electronic shutter w a lens shutter lens), Bulb ** When using the electronic shutter setting with a non-lens shutter lens, shutter speed 1/8000 to 2 sec, Bulb, aperture adjustment, and ND filter setting NA."

It seems the toy and fisheye lenses do have a manual aperture or focus.

According to dpr they have a fixed aperture. And manual focus.

If one looks here http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/PENTAXQ/ZURCOMPG3FRONT.JPG and http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/PENTAXQ/ZURCOMPC3FRONT.JPG one can see it in comparison (incl. sensor size) to the latest mFT and NEX.

Well, that's good for testing. ;-)

And for just 100EUR the fisheye is a no-brainer. The point of the other two toy lenses is mysterious to me though.
