All the talk of a full frame mirrorless, I think the biggest question is who will make such a thing? I can't see the existing mirrorless players re-defining their mount for it, nor producing a parallel system in addition. Legalities aside, the only other option I see would be a lower cost Leica copy.
What do you mean who? Canon and Nikon of course. Take a 5D2 or D700, remove the mirror, shrink the body, shorten the FFD et voilà, you have a FF MILC with minimum R&D. Add an adapter for F/EF lenses and we're done.

personally, I expect it to be Canon that will be the first. Why? Canon was the first to introduce the first commercially viable FF with the 1Ds (the ill-fated Contax N beat it by a whisker) and the first affordable FF in the form of the 5D.

Look, yes, I admit one day EVFs will probably replace the OVF. EVFs have made tremendous journey compared to their quality say 10 years ago. Lets say there has been 90% improvement but please note that the last 10% - to fully match the quality of OVFs - may easily require another 10 years of hard development work (which is by the way my rough estimation when it may happen). I definitely don´t think it will happen as soon as in 2 years (unless there is some really major, unexpected scientific breakthrough in the EVFs development which I can never rule out of course).

My guess is that it'll be sooner. Let's see how the 3MP EVF of the A77 be.

They're the last I'd expect to do it. They wont want to compete against their existing SLRs and risk market confusion with bringing out another line of very similar lenses. If anyone would do it, I think it would be someone not already currently active in SLR/mirrorless cameras. That list of course isn't very long...

Note I'm not saying it is hard for them do produce such a body, but I don't think it will work in their business directions unless they literally throw out everything they have already. Hang on, there was the FD>EOS move... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

I can see many products competing with each other within the same company. D700 competes against D3. 5D2 competes against 1Ds3. Surely another one wouldn't hurt? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

While their sensors may not be that different, the bodies overall are. And at least both will drive the sales of existing lenses. A new body with different mount is a different game.

Well, we can only wait and see.

Going back on-topic, here's a first review. Quite nice IMHO.

I just want a compact FF body, say size of EOS 600D/5100D. Not sure why I would want a mirrorless full frame body

It is already available incl. a complete lens system: Leica M9

Maybe Ricoh will make a Leica M module for their GX System and - huge maybe here- it will have a 24mm x 36mm sensor.

Those are your options.

No, it isn't... can not really compare a range finder with a DSLR. No AF, limited lenses.. Besides that, not charmed of that sensor and its AA-filterlessness... And the price <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />
