Tough question...
In terms of image quality for all practical purposes the E-P1 is DSLR like. In handling, the HX9V wins in quick usage if you just stick it on auto and hope for the best. If you want more control, it swings back in favour of the E-P1.
Hard to say more really, since they are quite different intrinsically.
