Forums > Back > Nikon 70-300 VR noise
#1
I have a new Nikon 70-300 VR lens. On this lens I can often hear it omiting a low pitch "buzzing" noise. I have never noticed that on my other 3 Nikon VR lens (unless you put your ear on the lens). Is this normal for this lens? It is the orginial VR technology, not VRII as in some of the newer lens. It is also a full frame lens, not a DX so the internal glass element is heavier.

I still have a few days left to exchange it for another, so I am looking for input.

My 105/2.8 VR is also quite noisy when VR is on. In the beginning I was most afraid from the clicking sound it makes when being de-/activated. Search a bit around on the net and you will find that the noise is normal behavior.

Thanks Thomas,

Apparently the 70-300 is louder than my others. I had the 18-200 before it met an untimely death and I was never aware of the buzzing. With the 70-300 I can feel the vibration while holding the camera and often hear it in a quiet room. I would think it would effect the movies recording on my D90 or D7000.

OK, feeling the vibrations sounds not good.
