next PZ lens test report: Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC
#1
Pretty good - as usual - albeit a bit prone to flare:

Its background bokeh looks rather smooth and good.... Probably nicer than the Canon and Nikon.

Again this goes against the Lenstip.com findings - they said the lens is starting of pretty soft all over wide open and only improving gradually. A "classic" sharpness curve, not the one typical of modern fast lenses (which usually have very sharp center even wide open at the expense of low quality in the sides and corners).

Based on Lenstip findings, I wouldn't bother. Based on Photozone findings, this lens is definitely interesting (though since it's a "dumb" lens, I'll hardly be considering it seriously even though I'll eventually get a fast 24 of some flavour).

Come on Sigma, where is our new fast 24 with HSM! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I'm amazed how low the ca is relative to the competition; in your sample pictures I think it would be helpful if you could manually fill in the fstop.
#5
If I could only focus manually fast enough I'd buy a whole set of these lenses. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Oh and one more thing that ISN'T different in Lenstip and Photozone review: check out the sharpness graph and this lens is almost the same at f/1.4 and f/2. That probably confirms the idea first proposed at Lenstip: this lens actually only has an aperture of f/1.8 or thereabouts.

Sigma 24/1.8 suddenly starts looking like a good idea.

Well, the bokeh shots were taken at very large apertures and the center looks pretty sharp to me ...

Which FF camera has that? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

It's coming <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> I'm sure. Aren't Sony announcing, or have they announced, a new FF FLT or something?

Anyway, it's coming for sure, no way around that.
