Interesting. The center performance is nice <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Have you observed a simliar issue in micro 4/3 land (i.e, sever lost of image resolution in the corners)?

This seems to be rather more a test of the NEX-7's sensor, rather than just the lens. If the lens performs better on the NEX-5. wouldn't testing on that camera be a 'fairer' assessment of the quality of this lens. Presumably, *any* lens you test on the NEX-7, will show similar corner inadequacies, reflecting the sensor, not the lens.

Even the samples on photozone aren't as "bad" as the graphs implied. IR used exactly this combo (30mm + Nex-7) in their comparison against M9 ( 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M lens)

and I don't see a major issue there either.

So ? It is actually a feature to test the camera-lens combination rather just the lens alone. The naked lens is useless.

The NEX 7 is Sony's flagship model and this is what you can get from it. Frankly, even the NEX 5 sensor has its issues.

Part of the problem is also the mount register and that's shared among all Sony cameras.

YIKES. clicked on the 5th sample image. Talk about CA! And that for a macro lens. Yikes. Not only that, though. I see CA like coloured edges even in the center of the image, and purple most probably LoCA like (even though not typical for such a shot). And on top of that, horrible coloured moire patterns.

Really bad...

Among all Sony NEX cameras <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />... Still, it makes sense to also test on the 5N, because sooner rather than later Sony will address the 7 sensor problem (7N anyone?) And then the test results will say less about the lens and more about the NEX 7's faulty design.

It seems Sony is letting early adopters bug test their hardware.... The A33 and A55 had the ghosting mirror problems, they solved it with the A77. The NEX 5 had sensor issues, solved mostly with the NEX 5N. now the NEX 7 with sensor issues...

The sensor "issues" on Nex-7 remains exaggerated. Except Klaus, neither DPR nor IR even noted the "issue". The took thousands of images plus the studio shots ...

And "ghosting" on A55 was insignificant non-issue too, and in that case even Klaus agreed with DPR and IR.

Brightcolours is a known Canon fanboy, by the way, in case someone new doesn't know.

And Photozone is a place where we prefer not to argue about fanboyism. Especially among fanboys <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />
