So, about the same size as a A7 III, but with the view finder chopped off and a tiny small viewfinder put in right at the edge for odd handling, a slippery and uncomfortable un-grippy grip in place of the A7 III's grip (only less deep, does not really make the camera smaller), losing the front dial and the custom settings buttons, and the AF point select joystick.
What did it gain? A swivel screen. Not the improved menu system of the A7S III, it keeps the older menu system of the A7 III. But it does get the improved AF from the A7S III and A7R IV.

Not really meaningfully smaller, just less nice to handle.

I sort of agree. The S5 seems to be more desirable in this class.

The MTFs for the 24-60mm are fairly decent though ...

While the Panasonic S5 is smaller than other other Panasonic models, it is bigger than the Sony A7 III itself. Indeed, the S5 is almost the same size as a Canon R6.
If "this class" means small FF, the A7 III seems to be more desirable (smaller and lighter). The Canon RP could be the most desirable "small FF" camera (good ergonomics, 300 grams lighter than that S5) if it had the R6 sensor (for those who feel they need high DR hidden in base ISO RAW) and a full mechanical shutter. But it has neither.

The decent 28-60mm f4-5.6 is not really wide enough to do what the camera is pitched at: "Vlogging". Nor is it playing to the strengths of an FF camera (small max aperture).
So, more a camera for people who heard they should want an FF camera without understanding when FF brings something extra and when it does not. As confused maybe as its name (why call it A7c, and not A5?).

Sony is attempting to take over the vlogging market completely ........ "striking when the iron is hot" while it's still there for the taking ....... the size/weight "is important" though, as many of these A7Cs will be held out on one metre long selfie sticks, with mics ..... so the smaller and lighter, the better ........
....... those shooting stills will have to put up with the semi-keyhole EVF of the 2.3 million dot 0.57X EVF ...... a completely different kettle of fish from the A7SIII's 9.44 million dot EVF with 0.78X mag ..... that should put off a lot of still shooters!
The race is on for a small stabilized FF sensored vlogging camera, with set and forget focusing, "no overheating", good battery life, no video limits and stabilisation, which can be put in your pocket when your done .... and while not perfection it will do exactly what is says it will on the tin!

....... however, it is too expensive at $1,800

Right Dave..... Sure looks like you know what you are talking about.....

If vlogging is all that remains of the system camera market, it is dead already.

With barely any reasonably priced RF lenses, the question remains - why Canon at all in this class?
Sure, the R5 with all the high-end stuff is awesome but that's about it at this point in time.

Bing undecided is the worst thing to do, hesitation is deadly, compromises are usually catastrophic options Canon suffered from their hesitation and almost lost their lead to Sony.
now they can't decide keep EOS M or make cheap EOS R
they must take a decision before it's too late

Why do you think this camera is there ............. for the benefit of the weak and fragile ??

...... in the end we all know your just a full on lovesick Canon fanboy ..... brown nose and all !!

The R5 and R6, yes. The RP will have a replacement at some point, but the lens question remains. And will it get a full electronic shutter, or will Canon not have listened to the critisism?
