We have a new record from the coke bottle

Yes, the coke bottle is even not so bad on the EOS R.

wow, no, it's not THAT bad.

Yeah, this is what uncorrected looks like:

And this is what 24mm corrected looks like:

(from this review: https://dustinabbott.net/2020/04/canon-r...is-review/ )

So, the resolution must take quite a hit at 24mm.

If I would have an R6 or R3, this would probably be my "standard zoom", accompanied by some native and adapted primes of various ilk. Not because it needs so much correction at the wide end, but because it is a versatile, relatively affordable lens with quite good results for stopped down photography. But since I don't have any RF camera, I don't have to worry about that ;-)

In mirrorless land, it appears that the trend in term of standard zoom designs, is to create fish eye zoom lenses and apply correction in software.
Maybe manufacturers are doing so because it's quicker, easier and cheaper to design such lenses, combined with the fact that cameras now use EVF and images can easily be corrected in real-time while resolution figures are still okay?
Such "tricks" cannot be done with DSLR since the optical view would be way too distorted, but with an EVF it's a "non-issue".
Well, that's my assumption but I might be totally wrong.

The T28-200 seems to be a quite decent lens though. Not sure about the digital trickery there but I reckon it's not that extreme?

Dustin Abbott was impressed by the 28-200.
