My ???? were about your sentence which seems to make no sense. But I am the wrong person to ask about that conclusion... as I too find the Nikon 1 sensor format a bit silly small. And if I would not have enough in a good compact digital, I would want/need a camera which then offers bigger DOF play.
For me it is not so much about "IQ" as it is about creative possibilities, and then I don't see the Nikon 1 as logical step up from a good compact digital either. Its size is its main "advantage", yet with a lens it is not pocketable like a digital compact.
I think the V1 is very very ugly (really), but I do like the looks sort of of the J1 (in black), and it would look pretty cool with my ultra micro nikkors (provided there will appear suitable adapters/helicoid thingies). But as "system camera" I do not see the point.
