Well to be more precise. The downsizing is most likely bi-cubic instead of linear. Depends on polynomial coefficient, you get better interpolation or extrapolation. Photoshop user interface makes life easier – they call it Bicubics 1- used for scale up 2- used for scale down.
I think that downsizing is the most overlooked or the most difficult task in digital photography. I can very easy evaluate the post processing skills of photographer. It takes me 1 minute to look at the internet photo galley. I judge the images only for downsizing. Mostly the top photographers have made good downsizing for proper internet presentation.
Personally I still cannot find the right workflow for downsizing. Some photographers think that there is no right prescription for downsizing of all images. There a plenty of thechniques and as already mentioned I still did not master this process. For my prints I leave this task to the professional printing LAB.
Maybe it is time to stop loafing in photo forums and begin with re-work of my website. It still relays on crappy J-album downsizer and not updated in last 6 months.ïŠ
PS My message is. Down sizing is not easy taks. Only few digital photographer master it.
Happy shooting,
Miro
