Surely I do not deny the power of software improvements. And I'm not trying to compare the existing D700 with a new 36mp D800 either. I'm just saying that with the same A/D converter and software assistance, a -let's say- 20MP FX sensor in this new D800 would be better in terms of SNR. That's just physiscs... And of course the question is, do we need that additional 16mp resolution and try to deal with the huge raw files of the 36mp sensor.
