The D800 is not the D4. One should not expect the D800 to be comparable in concept to the 1D X... The D4 will come when Nikon is ready. The earthquake in Japan and the flooding in Thailand have hit Nikon even harder than Canon, so just have a bit of patience. Of course there will be a follow up to the D3(x), and of course it also will gain ability.
The D800 is just an answer to the very successful 5D mk II, and its 36mp is geared to be able to compete with a future 5D mk III.
