Frank, I didn't read all here but if you are contemplating about manual Zeiss lenses, maybe you should have a look at some manual Nikkors as well. While the new AF-S 24mm/1.4G and AF-S 35mm/1.4G are great, there are some very good manual Nikkors out there as well.
The manual Nikkor 28mm/2 Ai or AiS is pretty well known to be an exellent lens, as is the manual 35mm/2 Ai or AiS.
I have a older copy of the Nikkor 35mm/2 O-C (same optic as the latest AiS and much better than the AF 35mm/2D) from 1973 and it does compare very well against my AF-S 35mm/1.4G on the D700: Have a look at a comparison between the two from f/1.4 to f/8 in my blog

Hi Marc:
Some time ago I considered manual Nikor lenses but later I stopped considering them. The main reason is that I cannot find a site which provides detailed reviews on them with numbers like here and lenstip. I know that those manual wide angle Nikors worked great on film cameras but I don't know how they worked on DSLRs. Counter-examples are Nikor AF-D 35mm f2 and 20mm f2.8 which worked very well on film cameras but not so well on full-frame DSLRs, according to the tests on this site.
PS. For whatever reasons I cannot access the page of your blog.
