The review isn't online, yet, and it won't be the first review in the new section, either. I'll have to collect a few more sample images, which the weather currently prohibits.
Nonetheless, the way the Noctilux renders the bokeh is already visible from the two teaser images. For many, the bokeh quality may be one of the primary reasons to consider such a lens.
However, very fast primes with pleasant bokeh seem to be an exception anyway. And most candidates are even worse than the Noctilux. I once owned a converted Canon 50/0.95, which had horrible bokeh (IMO). And in addition it was terribly soft (ok, it's a dated design). The bokeh of the Nokton 50/1.1 also looks very unpleasant to my eyes. Just like the earlier (f/1) Noctilux.
I had prepared a third teaser shot, which is attached below. The Noctilux certainly requires some learning, including which subjects might "work", especially regarding bokeh. I shot the Christmas party of my son (2nd grade) and f/0.95 certainly helped here to catch the atmoshpere without using flash (plus a second lens from the same source... I'll tease you with that one later <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> ). Cropped a little, one can get rid of the fuzzy bokeh in the edges, and close up the bokeh smoothens considerably anyway. Please understand that unfortunately I cannot show the images here.
