The 5D Mark II aready is a 21MP camera, a successor will most likely be a 30MP+ camera. Nikon needs to compete here, and they won't with a D4x. If they release both a D800 and D4x with the same sensor, hardly anyone would buy that D4x (I certainly wouldn't). That's the lesson Canon had to learn with the 5D II and 1Ds III... and Nikon with D3/D700. I'm pretty sure that's the main reason why there is a D3s, but not a D700s with the same sensor.
