To be very honest, I wouldn't bother with the kit lens Mk I. It isn't that great. You would be better off with an adapter and an MF prime lens in that case, almost any prime lens.
Do note that the adapters for Canon which allow setting of aperture run well north of 250 euros. So, if you are looking, budget wise, at the 18-55 Mk I, I'd seriously suggest you get an older Pentax, Minolta, Nikkor, or any other MF and manual aperture lens, with a reasonably good adapter, which should cost about the same, maybe slightly more, and will likely deliver better IQ at f-stops larger than F/8.
If you do not intend to keep the Nex-5, I'd suggest you go for the kit lens with IS, Mk II or Mk III IOW. That is quite good actually.
