nandadevieast, Even if a lens at a certain high resolution of sensor will show certain weaknesses in resolution on pixel level, it only would start to matter when you print very very big. Because only then one would start to notice resolution on pixel level...



As far as I can gather, you are looking into lenses for the Nikon D5100 though, am I correct? If so, that brings a bigger issue than whatever resolving power issue... The D5100 does not have the for a long time standard for Nikon internal AF motor. Older Nikon lenses (the ones not called (AF-S) do not have their own AF motor, and will not autofocus when mounted on a D5100.



So.. while the 180mm f2.8 and 135mm f2 DC will do fine resolution wise (which they certainly will), they will have an AF problem on the D5100.



So.. either look for a different camera body, or look at different lenses.
