Having just acquired a NEX 7 to replace my NEX 5 (not 5N, the original 5), I decided to compare the two cameras on various lenses to determine whether I could see the difference in corner sharpness. I use a distant tree as test picture (using an object really far away minimizes alignment errors).
Since I don't have any other NEX lens than the 16mm, which has poor corner sharpness, I used the LA-EA1 adapter and the following lenses:
-the CZ 24mm f/2.0
-the 35mm f/1.4 G
-the CZ 24-70 f/2.8 at 50mm
I tried different lenses and different apertures, because if we have a sensor problem the result will depend on the incident angle of the corner rays and that angle depends on lens design and aperture.
For the comparison, I publish the extreme lower right corner (the lower right corner of the crop is the lower right corner of each image). The image from the NEX 7 is resampled to match the one of the NEX 5.

The lenses do not all have sharp corners (notably the CZ 24mm prime) but I do not see that the results are vastly different between the two cameras. So I am not entirely sure that I understand what the problem is. Is the problem limited to rangefinder lenses? Or is the problem only detectable with MTF measurements?
