It most certainly is no LCD issue. If indeed just a 50% image gets processed for live view, for data rate purposes, then the image will always have to be "upscaled" for a fake 100% view. If enough processing power is available, it just might be possible to do a resampling for nicer upscaling, but it never will be "sharp".
The interesting thing about this issue as it is now, is that the jagged blocky 100% view we see now actually helps with focussing... Apparently the jaggies "snap" into focus.
