If you like to play with channels in B&W processing (which I think is essential), I would suggest ACR rather than NX2. Especially for dramatic effects on blue skies + white clouds, I play with the blue and aqua channels after darkening the sky with the graduated filter. But of course you have to keep one eye on the noise... And also with an high-pass filter you can accentuate the white on blue.
NX2 utilizes most of these effects (directly or indirectly), but the channels in ACR are very convenient. The strengths of NX2 are the shadow / highlight sliders (esp. the shadow slider itself) when used properly with ADL and the curves. You can keep contrast on a decent level without loosing too much shadow detail.
