We are talking about contrast detection AF here. As far as the camera is concerned this is merely a question of software algorithms and CPU speed. The software algorithms can always be improved.
The lens AF is certainly limited by the AF motor. The AF motor "feels" a bit conventional and nowhere as smooth as in (many) MFT lenses.
