From the other image where the sensor is visible, (http://photorumors.com/2012/07/20/more-images-of-the-canon-eos-m-mirrorless-camera-and-ef-m-22mm-f2-stm-lens/) the sensor is a 4:3 one, not a 3:2 one. So, it seems likely for now that it is a sensor like in the G1-X.
A bit of a shame, as the biggest gripe I have with the 4/3rds cameras is the sensor aspect ratio.
For the rest, it actually is quite a good looking camera (unlike NEX), like some of the MFT ones.
