On the Canon side, I don't think high end APS-C is out by a long shot. Yes, the 60D and 7D have been around a while now, but those bodies aren't on a consumer annual cycle anyway. As already stated, Canon really need a selling point for any successor, and that likely means a new sensor is a requirement. If the two will re-merge into a single line is open to question though, but indications are something will happen in that space next year.
Further combine this with recent discussion that Canon's semiconductor manufacturing processes are very old, they're about due a major update in the next years which I hope would enable them to at least catch up with the Sony sensors.
